David Cárdenas Lorenzo

He is a draftsman, born in Alicante, with a background in design and architecture.

Among his best known works are the ceramic mural at La Latina station in the Madrid subway, which he made in 2016. He has also participated in the textile production for Auto sacramental invisible by Lluis Alexandre and El Niño de Elche.

Story behind this towel illustration

It was born from David’s desire to build a bridge between drawing, everyday objects and local industry.

Turning his drawings into beach towels was an idea that came to him in 2019 one day on the beach, and he decided to self-produce several models in limited series, which have always been prints, until this SS2021 towel, where he has taken the leap to realize “his dream towel”, woven with 100% recycled cotton, in workshops near his hometown.

“I love the idea of looking at a towel like someone looking at a silkscreen. I have never felt comfortable with the art gallery environment and I have found in this niche, and others like it that mix drawing with industrial-artisanal production a territory in which I feel comfortable.” _ David Cárdenas_
